Big Oil Pushes Maryland County’s Climate Case to Federal Court

Another climate case against BP Plc and other oil giants is in federal court after industry lawyers transferred it from Maryland state court.

Anne Arundel County, Md., must now make its case against oil and gas companies in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland, or push to have the dispute remanded to state court. The county, which sits along the Chesapeake Bay, filed the lawsuit in April.

The venue battle mirrors similar conflicts playing out nationwide in recent years as state and local governments seek to hold fossil fuel companies liable for local-level impacts of climate change. ...
