The Senate has confirmed President Joe Biden’s first two judges to a US district court in Florida.
Jacqueline Becerra, tapped for the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida, was confirmed Tuesday, 56-40. A US magistrate judge for the district since 2019, she is filling a Miami-based vacancy created by Judge Marcia Cooke’s retirement in 2022.
Biden nominated Becerra for the seat in November. She was backed by both Florida GOP home-state senators, Marco Rubio and Rick Scott, who voted for her confirmation.
David Leibowitz was confirmed later Tuesday, also to the Southern District of Florida, 64-33.
