Mustafa Kasubhai won confirmation to Oregon’s federal trial court after a prolonged and difficult trip through the Senate where his nomination was central to Republican criticism of President Joe Biden judicial appointees as radical.

The chamber approved Kasubhai, 51-44, for a seat on the US District Court for the District of Oregon, where he is currently a US magistrate judge and will become one of only a handful of Muslim Americans ever to serve as life-tenured federal judges.
