President Joe Biden announced five new US trial court nominees to serve in Florida and South Carolina as the White House continues to negotiate with Republican senators about filling a large number of red state vacancies.
The nominees include four US magistrate judges and a former federal prosecutor turned in-house counsel, resumes that are common among Biden nominees backed by Republican home state senators, rather than the more non-traditional ones favored by progressive advocates.
Republicans have the ability to block trial court nominees through the blue slip process, which is no longer the practice for appellate judges.
