President Joe Biden intends to nominate Irma Carrillo Ramirez as the first Hispanic woman to serve on the federal appeals court in Texas, a rare judicial appointment of this White House to gain support from both Republican home-state senators.
Ramirez, whose selection to the US Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit was unveiled Friday, is the latest in a string of historic judicial “firsts” for Biden. He’s stressed professional, gender, and racial diversity in his appointments to a federal bench that’s historically been white and male.
