The Senate confirmed Eumi Lee to a federal trial court seat in San Francisco amid resistance from Republicans who consider her a progressive radical.
Lee was confirmed 50-49 on Wednesday in the narrowly divided chamber controlled by Democrats.
Lee will replace William Orrick, an Obama appointee who’s taken senior status, a form of semi-retirement.
The Senate also confirmed Edward Sunyol Kiel to the District of New Jersey by the same, 50-49 margin.
Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) voted no on confirmation for both the Lee and Kiel, who were nominated by President joe Biden.
