Awards to 347 Minority Teachers for NYC’s Biased Exam Affirmed

A federal judge followed the law when she conducted individualized assessments of the damages 347 New York City Black and Latino public school teachers suffered, as a result of a generalized liberal arts certification exam that had a disparate impact based on race, the Second Circuit ruled.

The teachers were among a larger group that brought the 1996 class action against the Board of Education of the City School District of the City of New York.
