Attorney Claims Client’s $4.5 Million Award Is the First From IRS’s Whistleblower Office

A certified public accountant was awarded $4.5 million April 7 for reporting a Fortune 500 company’s failure to pay $20 million in taxes to the Internal Revenue Service in the service’s first award under the whistleblower program, according to the accountant’s attorney.

The whistleblower, who wishes to remain anonymous, worked in the company’s accounting department, said Eric L. Young, the attorney who represented him. Young is a partner with Egan Young in Blue Bell, Pa.
