American Indian Court Pick Derailed by Senator Objection (3)

Sen. Steve Daines effectively scuttled Danna Jackson’s nomination to be the first American Indian judge on Montana’s federal trial court, saying he wouldn’t extend his support necessary for her to advance.

The Montana Republican told Bloomberg Law on Thursday that he wouldn’t submit a “blue slip,” or the required paperwork for district court judges to be considered by the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Under current Senate practice, district nominees require support from both home-state senators to move forward.
