Algonquin Gas Cleared to Build Turbine That Emits Nitrogen Oxide

A decision by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection to allow Algonquin Gas Transmission LLC to build a natural gas compressor station in Weymouth, Mass., even though it will emit air pollutants, was approved by the First Circuit.

Algonquin’s plan calls for using a natural-gas-fired compressor at the station that will emit nitrogen oxides into the air. Neighboring cities and individuals argued that Algonquin should use an electric turbine that won’t create air pollution.
