Air Filter Supplier Camfil Must Face Biometric Privacy Suit

Air filter supplier Camfil USA, Inc. failed to escape claims it violated the biometric privacy of a former employee under Illinois law, a federal judge ruled.

Judge Jeremy C. Daniel on Wednesday rejected Camfil’s argument for dismissing the lawsuit from Stephen Sloat, a former Illinois-based employee of the company. Sloat alleged that between September 2019 and July 2021 Camfil used a timekeeping program that captured and used his fingerprints without his consent, collecting the biometric data over 1,000 times.
