Technology, streaming service, and news industry groups urged the US Copyright Office to reject an exemption allowing independent hackers to legally circumvent digital security measures to probe artificial intelligence models for bias.
The office on Wednesday posted comments from the Motion Picture Association Inc., the App Association, and others submitted as part of its triennial process to review proposed exemptions to the 1998 Digital Millennium Copyright Act. Approval of the broad exemption would risk piracy of copyrighted works, commenters said, and could both lead to an increase in cyberattacks and disincentivize innovation.
