Abortion Pill Dispute Ends After in-Person Delivery Rule Lifted

A lawsuit over a requirement that women prescribed a two-drug regimen to induce an abortion get one of the pills at a doctor’s office, hospital, or medical clinic is over, as a federal court dismissed it Thursday.

The U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland acted on a notice of voluntary dismissal filed by women’s medical providers that had challenged the in-person delivery rule for mifepristone.

The drug is used during the earliest stage of pregnancy and must be prescribed by licensed medical providers. It is self-administered by women, usually outside of a clinical setting.
