ABA Chief Tells Legal Institute to ‘Speak Out’ on Intimidation

The president of the American Bar Association called on lawyers to stand up for the rule of law regardless of political party, amid attacks on attorneys and courts by the Trump administration.

William R. Bay told the American Law Institute on Tuesday in Washington that this is “the most important time for our profession that I can recall.”

“The rule of law is more important than our differences, your political party, your philosophy, where you live or what you do,” he told the group of lawyers and judges, who draft and adopt statements meant to develop and clarify the law. ...
