Embattled 96-Year-Old Judge Suspended in Disability Probe (2)

The Federal Circuit’s active judges have suspended Pauline Newman, the court’s eldest jurist, for one year as punishment for not submitting to medical testing as part of a disability and misconduct investigation.

The Judicial Council of the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit issued a unanimous order early Wednesday morning barring the 96-year-old Judge Newman from taking on new cases during this period or until she changes course and agrees to the required tests. The order states that the suspension is “subject to consideration of renewal if Judge Newman’s refusal to cooperate continues.”
