Texas AG Paxton Files Data Harvesting Suit Against PDD, WhaleCo

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed suit against PDD and WhaleCo for allegedly deceiving consumers while covertly harvesting their personal data and exposing it to the Chinese Communist Party.

  • Suit alleges customers shopping on Temu’s app or website are exposed to a digital security threat
    • Temu uses “dangerous” software functions that are “inappropriate for a simple e-commerce retaile,” a statement from Paxton’s office says
  • Laqsuit seeks up to $10,000 for each violation of the Texas Deceptive Trader Practices Act, with the number growing to $250,000 per violationthat targeted customers 65 or older
