Talarico Wins Democratic Texas Senate Primary Over Crockett

March 4, 2026, 7:16 AM UTC

James Talarico won the Democratic primary in the US Senate race in Texas, according to DDHQ, pulling off an extraordinary ascent from obscure state representative to budding national figure as the party seeks to break Republicans’ longtime lock on the seat.

Talarico, a Presbyterian minister-in-training who has assailed the political influence of billionaires, defeated US Representative Jasmine Crockett in the hard-fought primary. He will face off in November against the winner of a tight GOP primary that pits Senator John Cornyn against Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.
