Seized Venezuelan Crude Tanker Anchored Off Texas Coast

The oil supertanker Skipper seized by US authorities is sitting off the Texas coast in the Galveston Offshore Lightering Area, according to Greater Houston Port Bureau President Eric M. Carrero.

  • Very large crude carrier, loaded with Venezuelan oil, was seized by US in early December and arrived at the lightering area 50 nautical miles offshore about a week ago
    • Due to draft restrictions ship is unable to enter the Houston Ship Channel, a corridor of refineries and petrochemical plants
  • No information on future of carrier’s lightering operations, whereby oil on supertankers is transferred to smaller vessels, or whether the ship ...
