Mullin Commits to Ending ‘Micromanaging’ Policy on FEMA Money

Sen. Markwayne Mullin said Wednesday he would revoke a policy requiring the Homeland Security secretary to personally sign off on any contracts or grant awards totaling more than $100,000 if he is confirmed as head of the department.

The Oklahoma Republican said the policy amounted to “micromanaging” in response to a question from Sen. Andy Kim (D-N.J.) about whether he would commit to scrapping it. “I’m not a micromanager. We put people in, we empower them to make decisions,” Mullin said, adding that the department would also be “very responsible” with taxpayer dollars.
