Big news out of Texas last night: A jury acquitted a former Uvalde school police officer on all 29 counts of child abandonment and endangerment in the first trial tied to the fatal 2022 Robb Elementary School shooting, the Associated Press reports.
Adrian Gonzales’ trial was the first attempt to hold a law enforcement officer criminally responsible for the school shooting — one of the deadliest ever in the US — that killed 19 children and two teachers. It was also a rare attempt to charge a police officer for failing to stop a crime.
