Foreign Bribery Convictions Tossed by Federal Judge in Texas

A federal judge in Texas is tossing a Houston-area businessman’s foreign bribery convictions, he told the parties at a status conference on Monday.

The case against Ramon Alexandro Rovirosa Martinez—who would have been sentenced later this month—was the first to be filed after President Donald Trump’s 180-day pause on new Foreign Corrupt Practices Act enforcement was lifted last June.

Judge Kenneth M. Hoyt, for the US District Court for the Southern District of Texas, didn’t explain his reasoning for tossing the case but told the government and the defense that a written opinion was on its way.
