Embattled Lawyer Barred From Handling Patent Lawsuit (Correct)

A company that makes mobile devices meant to hold up in harsh environments escaped a patent-infringement lawsuit after a New York federal judge blocked Texas-based attorney Bill Ramey’s application to represent the patent owner.

Magistrate Judge Anne Y. Shields faulted Ramey “for failure to be forthcoming with the Court” in his pro hac vice application, which she denied in a short minute order Monday. Ramey had filed a petition for temporary admission to represent VDPP LLC, an Oregon patent-owning firm that’s sued retailers, airlines, banks, hotels, and other companies for alleged infringement of patents covering electrically controlled eyeglasses.
