Volkswagen, Audi Face Consumer Lawsuit Over Car Data Breach

Volkswagen AG‘s U.S. unit and its Audi brand face a potential consumer class action over a data breach that allegedly compromised personal information on 3.3 million people.

A California-based consumer sued the automakers Monday in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey on behalf of other current and prospective car buyers whose information was allegedly stolen by hackers.

The stolen information included names, contact details, and in some cases driver’s license numbers and other similar records, the consumer’s complaint claims.
