Verizon Says New 150 Mbps FiOS Tier Fastest in U.S.

Verizon today announced a new FiOS Internet tier that delivers peak speeds of 150 Mbps downstream and 35 Mbps upstream, giving the telephone company the claim to the fastest broadband speeds in the United States.

The new tier tops Cablevision’s 101 Mbps service tier, but also costs nearly $200 per month—almost double Cablevision’s top-tier price. (Actually, the top tiers from mid-sized cable operators Suddenlink and Mediacom best Cablevision’s most robust product.)

Previously, the fastest speed that Verizon offered on its FiOS network was 50 Mbps—on par with top cable operators Comcast and Time Warner Cable—and 20 Mbps up.
