U.S. Military Seeks Its Own Secure Messaging App

The U.S. government is looking to create a secure messaging service that it may one day commercialize to rival the likes of Facebook Inc.’s WhatsApp and the Durov brothers’ Telegram.

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), an agency within the Department of Defense, which is historically known for creating the Internet, April 25 published a call for companies to submit proposals to build a robust messaging platform that the military could use for secure communication of everything from intelligence to procurement contracts.
