U.K. Regulator Spotlights Spam Enforcement With $812K in New Fines

The U.K.’s privacy office Jan. 11 bolstered its enforcement campaign against businesses that make unauthorized marketing calls or send commercial spam with four fines totaling 600,000 pounds ($812,180).

The four fined companies—Barrington Claims Ltd, Newday Ltd, Goody Market UK Ltd, and TFLI Ltd—in total made 15 million automated calls, sent more than 44 million spam emails, and sent 1.25 million spam texts without obtaining consent from the targeted individuals, the Information Commissioner’s Office said in a statement.
