Uber to Face ‘Post-Stop’ Robotext Federal Class Claims

Consumers who had opted out from receiving texts from Uber Technologies Inc. but alleged they still received them, sued the ride-sharing giant May 2 in federal court claiming violations of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (Johnson v. Uber Tech., Inc., N.D. Ill., 16-cv-50113, complaint filed 5/2/16).

Uber has been the focus of multiple putative federal TCPA class actions since the company’s inception in March 2009. According to Bloomberg Law research, there are eight TCPA cases pending in federal district courts.
