The data protection agency’s ruling Tuesday ratified its 2019 deicision finding that Uber, including its local subsidiary Lieber Colombia, failed to protect data of approximately 267,000 Colombians. The decision stemmed from a 2016 Uber breach that several countries investigated.
Uber also must get independent verification from a national or international firm that it improved data security within 120 days or face fines of nearly $460,000, the regulator said. It must get similar audits every five years.
