Time Warner Pays $18.8 Million in California Internet Speed Suit

Time Warner Cable LLC has agreed to pay $18.8 million to resolve a California consumer protection lawsuit alleging thousands of customers paid for internet speeds they didn’t receive, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office announced on Thursday.

The settlement, the largest of its kind secured by the district attorney’s office, stems from a case brought on behalf of more than 170,000 Californians over allegedly unlawful business practices. Most of the settlement fund, $16.9 million, will be returned to consumers through monthly bill credits from Time Warner’s parent company, Spectrum, according to the government.
