TikTok and Oracle Reach Cloud Data Storage Deal for US Users

TikTok, the popular Chinese-owned video app, said it has reached an agreement with Oracle Corp. to store data from U.S. users on Oracle servers.

The deal has been in the works since 2020 when TikTok announced that Austin, Texas-based Oracle would become a minority owner of the service in an effort to appease then-President Donald Trump. Trump tried to ban the app and force parent ByteDance Ltd. to sell TikTok’s U.S. business over what he claimed were security risks associated with U.S. user data linked to an app from a Chinese tech company.
