Texas Law Provides Sales Tax Rebate For Telecommunications Investments

AUSTIN, Texas—Providers of cable television, internet, or telecommunications services will be granted a refund of the sales and use taxes paid on tangible personal property under certain circumstances beginning Sept. 1, under a bill signed into law by Gov. Rick Perry (R).

Crafted to encourage job creation and improve the state’s broadband services, H.B. 1133 was signed by the governor June 14 following approval in the Senate by a vote of 31-0 May 21 and House passage May 7 in a 130-0 vote with four abstentions (108 DTR H-2, 6/5/13).
