Telehealth Services Across States OKed Under HHS Declaration

Health-care providers can provide telehealth services across state lines during the Covid-19 emergency regardless of state and local prohibitions, the HHS said Thursday.

Telehealth is a central part of the effort to maintain ordinary health care during the pandemic. The Department of Health and Human Services declaration marks the latest move by the agency to ease access and expand the range of services Medicare pays for when delivered by telehealth.

Under the declaration, health-care personnel can order and administer HHS-approved countermeasures, such as Covid-19 diagnostic tests authorized on an emergency basis, to patients in other states. The declaration explicitly overrides ...
