Target Knocks Out More Patents in Store App Patent Fight

Target Corp. convinced a patent review tribunal that parts of four Bluetooth patents are invalid, cutting further into an infringement lawsuit brought by Proxicom Wireless LLC.

Proxicom alleges various features on the Target app, including in-store shopping services, infringe nine patents. Target subsequently asked the Patent Trial and Appeal Board to review the validity of the asserted patent claims.

Target proved all the challenged claims in four patents are invalid because they would have been obvious, the PTAB said in separate decisions Tuesday. The board also found certain claims were anticipated by previous inventions.
