Social Media Ban for Kids Younger Than 13 Proposed in Senate (1)

A bipartisan group of senators introduced a bill Wednesday that would bar social media platforms from serving kids younger than 13 years old, in a move that elevates similar state proposals to the federal level.

The Protecting Kids on Social Media Act would also require users between 13 and 17 to obtain parental consent to create an account and prohibit social media platforms from using an “algorithmic recommendation system” to show content to users under the age of 18.
