Senate GOP Escalates Probe Into AI Companies Over Youth Safety

Senate Republicans are demanding more answers from major artificial intelligence companies over their chatbots’ potential harms to children and teenagers, escalating an investigation into the industry’s practices.

In letters sent this week to the chief executives of OpenAI, Anthropic, Alphabet Inc., and Character.AI, two top Republican senators asked for information on age-verification tools, content restrictions, human auditing, safety incident reporting, and other issues related to children’s safety at the companies.
