Security Execs Warn Threats Like Ransomware Remain Key Issue

Threats such as ransomware remain a major issue for technology companies and require more vigilance when reviewing the software code that goes into their products, a group of security executives said at a Bloomberg News conference Wednesday.

Hackers continue to use malicious software to breach companies to demand extortion fees, using increasingly sophisticated code to subvert corporate defenses, said Geoff Belknap, the chief information security officer of LinkedIn, at the Bloomberg Technology Summit in San Francisco.

“Criminal organizations are focused on monetizing your inability to operate your business,” he said. “It’s a much bigger concern from that perspective.” ...
