Satirical Babylon Bee Sues Over Hawaii Election Deepfake Law (1)

The satirical newsite Babylon Bee and a Hawaii resident are challenging a state law that regulates the dissemination of election-related deepfake and generative AI technologies as “deceptive media,” arguing it criminalizes political speech in violation of the US Constitution.

The Hawaii law, known as SB2687, “chills and restrains satirists, political humorists, and other original content-creators,” and should be enjoined, the plaintiffs told the US District Court for the District of Hawaii in a Wednesday complaint.
