Russia Extends Deadline for Database Operators to Comply With Privacy Law

MOSCOW—President Dmitry Medvedev signed into law a bill to amend the country’s framework personal data protection law to, for a second time, postpone its implementation of certain data protection requirements, according to a Dec. 27 presidential press-service statement.

Medvedev signed into law legislation (Federal Law No. 359-FZ), dated Dec. 23, to amend Article 25 of the 2006 framework “On Personal Data” law (Federal Law No. 152-FZ), the announcement said. The amendment moves from Jan. 1, 2011 to July 1, 2011 the deadline for operators of databases containing personal information to comply with data protection requirements.
