Reynolds Wrap Maker Escapes Driver Genetic Medical History Suit

Reynolds Consumers Products Inc. won’t have to face a genetic privacy lawsuit brought by two truck drivers who alleged it asked illegal questions about their family medical history during job interviews.

The plaintiffs’ claims under Illinois’ Genetic Information Privacy Act were part of a wave of lawsuits that targeted employers for seeking medical histories during fitness-for-duty and pre-employment physicals. Plaintiffs Dustin Cunningham and Xane Olson initially sued the maker of Reynolds Wrap and Hefty trash bags in state court before the suit was removed to the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
