The Pentagon needs sustainable power grids and carbon-neutral fuel sources from the private sector in order to remain competitive in the Arctic and be more efficient during its missions.
The Defense Innovation Unit’s solicitations for microgrid generators and battery storage and carbon neutral synthetic fuels show that the Defense Department is “all about mission and protecting themselves from the consequences of climate change,” said John Conger, senior advisor for The Council on Strategic Risks and former principal deputy under secretary of defense at DOD.
