Anthropic’s Fight With Pentagon Over AI Widens Ahead of Deadline

Anthropic PBC and the Pentagon showed little sign of yielding in their standoff over safeguards for artificial intelligence, as the company gained support in Silicon Valley hours before a deadline for it to accept the government’s terms or face severe consequences.

Defense officials remain willing to continue negotiations with Anthropic, Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering Emil Michael said, despite what he called the company’s “unpredictable” behavior in the acrimonious confrontation over AI curbs.
