Pentagon Open to AI Talks With Anthropic Up to Friday Deadline

The Pentagon is open to more talks with Anthropic PBC to resolve a standoff over the company’s insistence on safeguards for military use of its artificial intelligence technology, a senior defense official said Friday, hours before a deadline for the firm to accept the government’s terms or face severe consequences.

Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering Emil Michael said the Pentagon remains willing to continue its discussions with Anthropic, despite what he called the company’s “unpredictable” behavior in an acrimonious standoff over AI safeguards.
