OpenAI Loss Rose Eightfold in 2025 as Costs Hit $34 Billion: FT

OpenAI’s net losses jumped eightfold after the ChatGPT maker spent more than $34 billion on research, marketing and other costs in 2025, the Financial Times reported, citing unidentified people familiar with the matter.

The US startup spent more than $19 billion on research and development and almost $6 billion on sales and marketing alone, the FT reported, citing numbers shared by an independent journalist that the people confirmed.
