OpenAI Gets State Claims Cut From YouTubers’ Copyright Lawsuit

OpenAI Inc. escaped state law claims YouTube creators brought in a copyright infringement class action accusing the company of scraping their online videos without permission to train its artificial intelligence models.

OpenAI moved to dismiss the lawsuit’s California unfair competition and unjust enrichment counts and its Massachussetts deceptive business practices claim in December, arguing all three were “squarely preempted by the Copyright Act.”
