OpenAI Fights Sanctions at Hearing in ‘io’ Trademark Suit (2)

A California federal judge repeatedly pressed AI device startup IYO Inc. for clear and convincing evidence that OpenAI Inc. violated a temporary order blocking it from using an “io” trademark, during a hearing on IYO’s bid for sanctions.

Judge Trina L. Thompson on Tuesday agreed with IYO’s counsel that OpenAI’s website announcement about the company’s merger with Apple veteran Jony Ive and his AI hardware startup Io Products Inc. used similar language as an earlier version that was taken down after the court entered a temporary restraining order.
