OpenAI, Child Safety Group Back Compromise California Measure

OpenAI Inc. and online child safety group Common Sense Media announced Friday they’re teaming up on a California ballot initiative to regulate artificial intelligence chatbots.

The two parties agreed to consolidate their competing proposals, said Jim Steyer, CEO of Common Sense Media. He called the compromise “the strongest youth AI safety measure in the nation’s history.”

The Parents & Kids Safe AI Act will center on offering parental control to monitor and limit AI usage for children, according to a description of the proposal provided by Common Sense Media. The measure would require alerting parents if there are signs of ...
