NY Gov. Kathy Hochul Vetoes Bill Forming AI Study Commission

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) vetoed legislation Friday that would have established an expert panel to study the effects of artificial intelligence before recommending regulations.

The bill (A4969) would have created a 13-member commission to examine “artificial intelligence, robotics, and automation” before issuing a report, according to the legislative language. It would have concluded its work by the end of 2024.

At least seven other states and Puerto Rico have approved similar legislation to study AI to varying extents.
