Nexstar Sees FCC Rule Relaxation ‘As Soon As’ This Month

The Federal Communications Commission could move toward striking rules that limit broadcasters’ merger opportunities “as early as this month,” Nexstar Media Group Inc. CEO Perry Sook said Wednesday at Citigroup Inc.’s 2025 Global TMT Conference.

  • Nexstar expects the agency to relax or eliminate the national viewership cap, which limits a single broadcaster from reaching more than 39% of US households. The agency is also poised to address a rule that restricts the number of stations owned in local markets. Those changes should be “in the public domain” by the end of the year, Sook said.
