New French Decree Allows Police to Block ‘Terrorist,’ ‘Child Porn’ Sans Court Order

The French government has published a decree granting itself authority to order the “blocking” of access to web sites that allegedly incite or support terrorism or that “spread” child pornography.

Published Feb. 6, decree No. 2015-125 of Feb. 5 spells out a procedure under which designated police agents in the ministry of interior can order all French Internet service providers to block access, within 24 hours, to sites that the agents unilaterally determine violate statutes aimed at fighting terror and child pornography.
