Microsoft Gets 3D Imaging Patent Tied to ‘HoloLens’ Suit Tossed

Microsoft Corp. convinced an administrative tribunal to throw out a 3D medical imaging patent that’s one of several at issue in a separate infringement lawsuit over the tech giant’s “HoloLens” headsets.

Claims tied to US Patent No. 8,384,771 were unpatentable because they were obvious or anticipated by prior art, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board ruled Wednesday.

The decision tosses one of a handful of patents that D3D Technologies Inc. has accused Microsoft of infringing in litigation at the US District Court for the Middle District of Florida.
