Microsoft AI Project Fails to Impress, Army Goggles’ Future Dim

Nearly $500 million spent so far on the Army’s procurement of specialized goggles from Microsoft hasn’t resulted in a deployable product, so the House Defense Appropriations panel is looking to slash funding for the project to $24.2 million for the next fiscal year.

The Army asked for $424.2 million, but the specter of billions of wasted dollars resulted in the lawmakers’ response.

In January 2022, the Integrated Visual Augmentation System, or IVAS, goggles still were not combat-ready despite steady work since the program’s inception in 2018.
